create templates, copying over from wikipedia as needed

I've tried copying over a template from Wikipedia. I think you need to be a 'template editor' or administrator to do this? I don't see a 'View source' tab on the following template I just tried to create: https://wiki.sensemaker-suite.com/index.php/Template:Webarchive JohnGrant (talk)

400 errors on any attempt to delete an article as well as load a file - suggests an audit of the set up

The Special:Version page states this is MediaWiki 1.33.0. This version is obsolete. Upgrade to the latest LTS 1.35 ? JohnGrant (talk) 06:55, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

Agreed - is that easy to action? ---Snowded TALK 14:49, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
The host command indicates this MediaWiki instance is running on AWS. If it's the Bitnami MediaWiki Stack for AWS Cloud, the instructions are here: https://docs.bitnami.com/aws/apps/mediawiki/administration/upgrade/. Happy to assist with the upgrade if required. With respect to deleting pages, there's a section in Koren's book that suggests blanking rather than deleting pages. Would this be a better approach? JohnGrant (talk) 15:12, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

"The advantages of blanking are that anyone can do it, anyone can undo it, and anyone can see what the old contents were, at any time. It's a much less severe way of accomplishing the same goal."

add edit bar

The Special:Version page indicates the WikiEditor extension is not installed. Installing the WikiEditor should enable the edit bar: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:WikiEditor 06:55, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

If MediaWiki is upgraded to 1.35 then new VisualEditor will be an option. JohnGrant (talk) 15:01, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

I've gathered together a few creative commons legal text that may help us converge on something appropriate for this wiki. Please note I am not a lawyer. JohnGrant (talk)

Add thank you option on edits

Installing the Thanks extension adds a quick way to give positive feedback for productive contributions to MediaWiki sites. JohnGrant (talk) 14:17, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

Errors

The Cynefin framework page returns a HTTP 500 error: https://wiki.sensemaker-suite.com/index.php/Cynefin_framework JohnGrant (talk) 08:01, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

I now suspect missing templates are the cause? JohnGrant (talk) 10:37, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

Installing Citation Extension

This appears to need command line access and an understanding of way wikimedia was installed. This may be via a package managements tool, docker or something else. It looks straightforward to install. There will be documentation for the installation where changes are logged. I'm not sure where this documentation is, who manages and accesses it, and who would have the server access to do the installation work. Happy to help with the technical part MikeHaber (talk) 22:45, 2 February 2021 (UTC)
